Ciseco Pi-Lite Lots of LEDs for Raspberry Pi in Red or White - Ciseco B040, You've probably heard of the LoL (Lots of LEDs) shield for the Arduino, well Ciseco has created the Pi Lite LED board for the Raspberry Pi. It is fully assembled and ready to plug in for instant blinkiness, with a 14 x 9 LED matrix (126 LEDs) and its own ATmega328p processor to handle special functions all controlled by the Pi over a serial link. Special functions include character display, scrolling, bar-graph and VU meter, plus you can set the enitre array from a 126 character string or change the state of a single LED. Simply using the Pi Lite as it comes out of the box gives you tremendous scope for invention but there is another level you can explore if you're feeling adventurous. The on-board ATmega328 is programmable if you install a 6-pin ISP or FTDI header, meaning you can modify or extend the existing open source firmware to suit your own needs. If you want to use the analog pins from the 328, those are broken out to standard holes too. And for the truly ambitious there's an I2C link available which will allow you to daisy chain Pi Lites for even bigger displays.Because the Pi Lite is a serial device you can drive it from any device that is capable of outputting serial data. This means you can add one to your Arduino or your PC. If you decide to upload new firmware you could probably use it stand alone, but that is left as an excercise for the reader.
